Momma Poppins

My latest creation is a copy of Mary Poppins, custom designed to fit Momma, at Gay Days Anaheim 2011. I drafted a pattern to her unusual measurements, and with only two fittings, this outfit was finished. The coat is fully lined and zips up the back, for easy changing. I altered an existing shirt, to create the dicky. The hat and scarf were purchased as a set, directly from Disney.

Crossroads

This was a four day shoot, of a fun mystery. Our first day of shooting, was on the top of a parking garage downtown. The actress shows up with a bit of a pregnant belly, she forgot to tell me about. So, of course, the belt doesn’t fit. Oh, and it HAS to hold her gun, holster and walkie-talkie. I found a police supply store, a few blocks away and was able to get back within the time it took the crew to set up the first shot.

This guy has a mysterious past; and an even more obscure future. I had two duplicate costumes for him: 1 clean, 1 bloody.

I supervised the wardrobe for this short film, shot locally over a long weekend. I designed & constructed the Madonna costume, and I did the aging/distressing of the other clothes. This film is still in the editing phase, so it doesn’t have an IMDb page yet.

Miracle

I was Costume Supervisor on this short film. It was produced as a pitch piece for a feature, and we had a great time on the shoot, and I’m working with this director again.

Most of the costumes came out of the actors’ closets, but I made a few custom t-shirts; namely the “United States of Amnesia” shirt that he wears at the end.

I made this cotton dress, based on Coraline’s Mother, for Halloween 2010. Cotton dress with reinforced collar. I made the “eyes” with buckram in round frames, and we built the pointy head out of buckram as well.

Ask Grim

In this episode of Ask Grim, I created a new robe for Grim. We were renting the original, and it was getting quite expensive. I made two removable liners for the hood, so we could wash them, when his make-up smeared.

I also assembled the leprechaun costume, from pieces at EC2 Costumes, in Studio City.

Princess Momma

I created this look for Momma’s appearance at the MiceChat booth, during D23. She also wore it to Gay Days Anaheim 2011.

Momma’s design was to incorporate elements from five different Disney princesses: Rapunzel (wig), Belle (center front), Sleeping Beauty (pink satin), Snow White (sleeves, capelet), Cinderella (paniers). These princesses are all represented on one float, in the Soundsational Parade, at Disneyland. So we have the Soundsational song playing on speakers, in her bosom!

Firecracker Follies 2011

This year, I was very proud to be Costume Supervisor for the Firecracker Follies. This is the third time I’ve worked with this group and it’s always a fun show. I put together the look below, from a variety of sources, on a very low budget. I made the vest and the skirt on Momma, and I altered the other outfits to fit the actors.

“Vincent” was fairly easy to style, as we had a lot of historical reference. The suit was rented and I made the ascot to match.

Our hero is kind of a lovable loser, so I wanted him to kind of remind the audience of Charlie Brown, without being too “on the nose”. His outfit was off the rack from Ross.

“Charlotte” was played by: Dot Jones (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0427963/)

“Charlotte” is secretary for The Grim Reaper. We wanted her to appear stuck in time, and I like the soft look of a late 1950′s professional woman for her. She’s all business, with a flirty, feminine side. I made the dress to Dot’s measurements, based on an historical pattern, and added crystals to a sweater from Goodwill. Custom jewelry was made by Jennifer Bobiwash (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1983185/) and wig was styled by Melissa Anchondo.
